Golden Russet Apple - Semi-dwarf
One of the great family orchard apples of 19th century America. Fruit is of medium size with crisp, aromatic, subacid, creamy yellow flesh with great flavor and legendary sugary juice. Skin is partly to almost completely russeted, varying from grayish green or greenish yellow to an attractive golden brown with orange highlights. Used fresh and for cider, drying and cooking. Ripens late Sep./early Oct. Ripe fruit hangs on the tree until frost; stores well. Tree is vigorous, winter hardy and disease resistant. Zones 4 to 6. Estimated chilling requirement of 800-1000 hours. but proven very productive in trials with much lower chill. Partly self-fruitful; largest crops with cross-pollenization. Available on M111.
