BACKYARD ORCHARD CULTURE
What Is Backyard Orchard Culture? Families today have less space for fruit trees, less time to take care of them, and less time to process or preserve large crops than in the past. Accordingly, today's family orchards should be planned and managed differently. The objective of BACKYARD ORCHARD CULTURE is the prolonged harvest of tree-ripe fruit from a small space. This means planting close together several or many fruit varieties which ripen at different times, and keeping the trees small by summer pruning. Read more...

New Fruit Trees

Plums & Prunes

The Imperial Prune is another new offering; This rich, sweet flavored prune was discovered in 1870 in France. It was once widely grown in California due to its unusually large size and great flavor. We are pleased to bring it back into the home orchard and it is available in both standard and semi-dwarf root stocks.

Berries

Triple Crown Blackberry is new this year. The plant has thornless, semi-erect vines that bear large, firm, tasty berries. The harvest season begins in mid July and extends to mid August.  The plant is very vigorous and has a reputation for exceptionally high yields. Imagine a hot day in July enjoying a delicious berry cobbler topped with a scoop of  vanilla ice cream!

Fire Blight Resistant Pear Trees

Fire blight on pear trees can be quite a problem in certain areas of the country, and we are pleased to add new fire blight resistant pear trees to our bare root pear trees available online.

  • Potomac Pear is resistant to this bacterial disease and the fruit has fine texture and flavor.
  • Blake's Pride Pear, also resistant to fire blight, is aromatic and very flavorful.
  • New this year, and also disease resistant, our 4-N-1 Pear eliminates both disease and pollination concerns.
